Position Overview: Primarily, the Americorps will run Teen Programs.
Our teen service and leadership programs challenge 6th-12th graders to learn what it means to be a leader and to serve their community.
These programs run as after school or weekend clubs and opportunities during the year and as stand alone week long experiences in the summer, including service challenge weeks and counselor in training style programs.
Teen programs could require evening and weekend hours and possible travel to neighboring communities.
Additionally, the Americorps should be familiar with our other programs as they will have regular shifts at these programs as well.
Programs Overview: Teen Connects: Bi-monthly community service opportunities for teens coordinated by Camp Fire staff and partner organizations.
Occasionally a teen connect event is also a social opportunity for teens to hang out and create community Teens in Action: A weekly club where teens talk about the issues facing their community to learn more about them and design service projects that address them.
Other Programs: School Year K-5: Camp Fire Afterschool (CFA) is a flexible and fun option for families of youth in K-5th grade looking to balance after school care with enrichment opportunities and social-emotional skill development.
No School Day Camps (NSDC) are full day camps on days when elementary schools are not in session (except for major holidays.
) School Year K-5 programs are filled with time outdoors, fun challenges, STEAM activities, games and songs, and are designed to support youth in exploring their sparks, practicing social skills, creating connections, building community, and gaining confidence.
ExplOregon programs focus on nature-exploration field trips during early-release Wednesdays for 4th-5th graders.
STEM programs range from LEGO robotics to coding and engineering and take place afterschool and during no school days.
Summer K-5: SummerKids, Tumalo Day Camp and ExplOregon are our 3 summer camps.
SummerKids explores different fun themes for all 9 weeks of summer, while Tumalo Day Camp happens once a month at Tumalo State Park and takes youth pre-K through 7th grade through different progressions of outdoor skill building depending on age.
ExplOregon is a week-long outdoor skill building camp that takes place in various rural communities.
Additionally we have enriching half-day STEM programs that focus on LEGO robotics and coding that take place in various communities.
Position Responsibilities Overview: Camp Fire is seeking a proactive and caring leader to work directly with elementary students and teens.
This includes: Youth management: Developing relationships with youth and supporting youth growth Implementing program routines to build community Creating and delivering engaging activities and games Recognizing and creating social and emotional learning opportunities Managing a safe physical and emotional space for youth, including enforcing mask wearing, physical distancing, and limiting sharing of supplies Communicating regularly with program manager about program needs or issues Proactively recognizing program needs, advocating for solutions to set staff and youth up for success Other tasks: Supporting curriculum development and sharing program ideas Supporting recruitment efforts Maintaining and managing supplies as needed Maintaining and managing program attendance and other records as needed Participating in staff meetings and professional development Participating in and supporting preparation for organization events such as Absolutely Incredible Kid Day, recruitment events, outreach, or fundraisers Participating in our program evaluation process and improvement plans Sharing ideas and skills for all aspects of improvement for our program Skill and Qualifications: Camp Fire recognizes the value of skills and knowledge gained outside of formal higher education and paid employment.
Applicants who do not meet all of the qualifications but present other relevant qualifications or experience, or demonstrate a strong desire to learn and gain job skills in the youth development, will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
Examples of Desired Qualifications: Experience working directly with elementary aged youth or demonstrated desire to learn Some higher education, classwork, or training in the youth development field or other related fields Training and experience with best practices in teaching, group management, planning and designing activities, social-emotional learning, and trauma informed care for elementary youth First Aid/CPR certified (or ability to get certified by start date or soon after) Skills: Commitment to creating and maintaining a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment Demonstrated ability to create developmental relationships and connect with youth and staff Ability to effectively manage groups of youth Strong verbal communication skills with youth Ability to identify and communicate personal needs for a successful working environment Compensation: Living allowance of $17,600 for the year, which is distributed bi-weekly in the gross (before taxes) amount of approximately $730.
Americorps members also receive an education award of $6,195 (before taxes) after completing their year of service, which may be applied to qualified loans or future education.
