RN Resident (Bend) RN Resident Cohort Starts 08/12/24 A resident nurse is a registered nurse whose clinical experience after graduation is less than twelve (12) months.
A resident nurse shall be hired for a specific unit and assigned a designated preceptor.
It is an expectation that the period of residency will be a total of twelve (12) months with three (3) of those months actively working with a preceptor.
At the successful completion of the first three (3) months of residency, the Resident will apply to open Full-Time RN position(s) on their home unit.
The resident nurse will not be eligible for transfer to a different unit or change FTE for a period of nine (9) months from the beginning of the residency.
Applicants who are accepted into the RN Resident program will be asked to commit to working at St.
Charles Health System for at least two years.

The residency is a planned and comprehensive period during which RNs can acquire the knowledge and skills to deliver safe, quality care in the clinical setting.
It is intended to fill the gap between practice expectations taught in school and the actual requirements of practicing nurses.
Residents receive classroom instruction, skills and simulation labs, and debriefing and mentoring sessions.
The preceptorship provides for clinical experience under the supervision of an experienced RN Preceptor.
After successful completion of this Residency period, will have an opportunity to apply for available positions within St.
Charles Health System.
The Registered Nurse Resident, will provide specific care to assigned patient(s) throughout the shift, as required under the scope of the RN licensure and under the direction of a RN preceptor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Attends and actively participates throughout all aspects of the residency program including but not limited to didactic, skills lab, clinical shifts, discussion groups.
Participates regularly in debriefing and mentoring sessions.
Maintains and demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques and applies this knowledge in accordance with St.
Charles Health System policies and work instructions and within laws and regulations governing nursing practice in the State of Oregon.
Assesses the patient’s condition and needs using critical thinking and clinical judgment: sets outcomes; implements appropriate nursing actions and collaborates with other disciplines to meet the patient’s/family’s physical, emotional, spiritual, ethical, social, and intellectual needs; and evaluates patient’s progress.
Demonstrates awareness of and supports St.
Charles Health System’s departmental and operating unit goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities.
Participates in activities that promote professional growth and development of self and others.
Communicates (both written and orally) effectively and maintains professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and guests.
Begins to identify work-related problems with possible solutions and implements solution(s) (within scope of practice), when appropriate.
Actively participates in the management of the patient’s experience by clarifying, integrating, and coordinating the roles of the interdisciplinary team.
Participates in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of each individual, patient and caregiver.
Participates in creating intentional relationships and demonstrates focus attitudes and behaviors that enhance the care experience.

Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures and regulatory agencies.
Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with St.
Charles Health System policies and procedures for medication administration.

Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

EDUCATION: Required: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing within the last 12 months.
Successful completion of St.
Charles Health System residency within 12 months of placement.
Preferred: BSN LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION Required: Current Oregon RN license.
AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
Ability to travel to all St.
Charles Health System worksites.
Preferred: N/A EXPERIENCE Required: Less than 1 year of RN experience.
Preferred: Previous healthcare experience.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds.
The use and operation of a motor vehicle for Home Health and Wound Caregivers.
Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level.
Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs.
Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), operation of a motor vehicle.
Exposure to Elemental Factors Rarely (10%): Wet/slippery area, chemical solution.
Never (0%): Heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surface.
